On the unintentional fubar front I did accidentally delete the entire blog database (all posts, links, settings etc. etc.) earlier on today by accident, but luckily I’d just backed it up. Jose didn’t notice and I have no real reason to tell him, but I figure since I just spent the entire evening fixing his computer and re-installing Windows he won’t kill me if I confess.

O.K After much debugging and almost killing the blog a couple of times I think I’ve got this all figured out. Now once again I need the help of our international readership to tell me if this actually works in the way I think it should.

Apologies to anyone (especially if you read via Rss) who’s been presented with various errors and time outs today. I’ve been trying to get a clever little plugin that lets me add links automatically to work, and had it all set up until I tried to get rid of a very minor bug, namely an extra space after each link.

O.K. This is going to sound a bit weird but I’m playing with an extremely complicated bit of code to do something extremely simple. Basically I’m going to be putting “buy this book” links to Amazon into the posts when we interview authors, but since our audience is split between the US and the UK I want Brits to be directed to Amazon.co.uk and Americans to Amazon.com, everyone else will also end up at Amazon.com I’m afraid.

Apologies to any of you who may have visited rectly only to discover that Meme Therapy has turned into a single scary looking block of text, but we’re going to be migrating over to our own domain over the next couple of days and so I’ve been importing the posts into wordpress.

Rosie and I were just talking about advanced forms of viral mimetics delivered through the internet just before I got hit by one. It’s a pass along book quiz. Velcro City Tourist Board tagged me with a post titled When book memes attack!. The idea is a bit cheesey but I couldn’t resist:

You’ve probably noticed that blogging Canadian SF writers are overepresented here. Well that trend continues. We’ve resolved not to make a meal out of links posts. There’s other guys doing a great job and we doubt we could do better. However I do spend a lot of time on author’s blogs and thought it might be an idea to specialize and do the odd links posts highlighting my favourite posts there. So here goes:

There’s a really cheesey site where you can find out what kind of Science Fiction writer you are. I gave it a shot and I got a writer descibed as a “A pyrotechnic talent who put only a small portion of his energy into writing.” Kind of appropirate considering that there hasn’t been a Meme Therapy entry for six days. If you want to take the cheesy test yourself you can here (link).
