We didn’t get into the concept of the Singularity in the last podcast. And while we will do a podcast on that topic in the future I came across a flick on the subject that is so good that I want to commend it to your attention now. It’s called Building Gods and you can download it off Google Video (link). I don’t normaly link to cool bits of media on the web but this nugget warrants a finger pointed at it.

I’m not a Singulartarian myself but one of the speakers in this film, Hugh De Garis, is. I found him a compelling speaker and he’s refreshingly open in acknowledging the religious dimensions to this thinking while still retaining something akin to skepticism. I’ve always viewed the religious side to certain brands of Singularism with a great deal of distrust myself but I found De Garis’ cards on the table take compelling.

I highly commend Building Gods to your attention. Even if, like me, you’re skeptical of the Singularity scenarios you’ll find it brain caffeninating.
